High Resolution Wind Resource Evaluations
In order to evaluate wind resource, mesoscale numerical weather forecast model and microscale wind flow model are used together. As a result of this study, wind resource data with required resolution can be generated. 200 m, 1 km, even 5 km resolution resource data generation is sufficient for evaluating wind resource of a region or a whole country. These kinds of studies are adequate to give a rough estimate about which area the investment will be realized. However when the investor has to determine the exact location of the investment, these data will be insufficient and higher resolution weather simulation model outputs will be required.
Generating high-resolution model outputs for the whole country will cost high. Instead of this, after determining the area to build the wind power plant, wind energy investors can buy high-resolution wind resource evaluation of this area by ETC-IS as a service. Even existing licensed investors can supply these data for the area they are licensed for. This cost-effective study, which surely cannot be compared to the cost of a wind power plant, will reduce the risk of the investor.
Monthly average wind speed and variability, distribution of wind speed and direction, daily characteristic of wind resource, seasonal average wind speed, annual average wind speed and abnormal wind resource conditions are data groups that will be supplied in this study typically. Same calculations will be made for turbine types and heights determined by the investor in order to make ideal power capacity factor estimation calculations. As a result of this, map and data regarding monthly average capacity factor and variability, distribution of capacity factor, wind power rose, daily characteristic of capacity factor, seasonal average capacity factor, annual average capacity factor and abnormal wind power conditions can be presented.
Long Term Wind Resource Variability Evaluations
It is commonly known that meteorological events change from year to year and are mostly subject to long term periods. It is a critical problem that wind data gained during any time period (for example a year) runs into which part of this periodic action. It is an important question if the obtained data belongs to a windy year or windless year of the analyzed area. Measurement data of target area obtained at a windier year than the long term average will mislead that the area has richer wind resource than it actually has. Contrary of this situation will cause the investor disregard the high potential of the target area. Due to Long Term Wind Resource Variability Evaluations service offered by ETC-IS, investors will not have this problem and it will be clear that how much the measurements reflect the real potential of the subject area.
Operational Wind Resource Estimations
Requirement for operational wind resource estimation will arise following the installation of wind energy application. Operational estimations are anticipation of output generated by wind energy application. This period can either be few days or a couple of minutes. Due to this service provided by ETC-IS, for instance amount of electricity energy obtained by wind power plant in next 24 hours will be estimated. Thus investors will safely determine active electricity energy supply and daily production program.
